Audio-Transformers are the heart of each tube- or valve-amplifier and in most cases a bad sound or a bad test reading is coming from a poor main or output transformer. In the past the materials of transformers were more expensive than to wind them. Today things have changed and a lot of manufactures are calculating with a "red pencil" to save costs. Simpler coil constructions with less layer insulations and windings, which arenīt side by side, are only two examples for a poor transfomer construction. Special bifilar windings became exorbitantly expensive. Therefore we made the decision to manufacture our transformers like 20 to 30 years ago, but using improved materials from todayīs market. Against other German manufactures we are using with a few exceptions only transformer laminations with an inch size. This gives us the possibility to provide our transformers with shrouds for a horizontal or vertical mounting and flying leads on one side, on the other we are able to produce a wide range of replacment transformers, which can be then fitted without drilling extra holes in the chassis. But the main reason for using the GOSS (Grain Oriented Silicon Steel) M6X core was, that this annealed lamination has had better test results than the comparable German VM 111-35 transformer steel. In German, the annealing process is only an option by paying an extra charge. More details regarding different constructions, ad- and disadvanteges between M- and EI-cores and the used materials can be found in each application of our transformers.
