HIWATT

Hiwatt Amplifiers are well known for there tight sound. Perhaps it is the guitar amplifier with the cleanest sound ever produced. There is no doubt, a very large porportion have the built in output transformers of the famous company PARTRIDGE. The first output transformer, which was mounted in a Hiwatt 100 was the TG5479, the TG6556 is the smaller 50 Watt model.

Very early Partridge TH1499 200 Watt Output Transformer used in the 200 Watt Sound City Bass Amplifiers with four KT88 tubes. It compares nearly to the Hiwatt DR201 200 Watt TH7239, which cames without the 100 Volt tap and different color codes. This huge transformer was made with the British lamination "Imperial 248" and has a weight of nearly 5,6 kg. For further details, please enjoy the above link.

Before presenting the three transformers in detail, please allow me some short words to the company PARTRIDGE. PARTRIDGE itsself was bought from the Transformers&Rectifiers Group in England. Till arround 1990, the new formed PARTRIDGE DIVISION wounded their transformers itsself. Afterwards the PARTRIDGE DIVISION was liquidated and all orders were outsourced to two known transformer companies in the U.K. All rights for PARTRIDGE transformers are still belonging to the T&R Group and they are making these yellow stickers onto the laminations.
